Opus 5

This week was the most painful Opus yet. Two guys took off at the gun. I busted my ass to bridge the gap. I ended up getting a sprint point as I was closing in, and again as they dropped me on the second sprint. I soft-pedaled until I was back in the pack. I sat out of the 9th lap sprint. After doing some math in my head, I figured I'd be better off rejuvenating and grabbing the double points on the final sprint.

Last sprint went in my favor (keep in mind that the two man breakaway was finished long before me and the pack). I used the same strategy that's got me the final sprint the last three times; wind up the sprint early. I feel that I have a decent "long" sprint (~20 seconds), but my "short" game is lacking. I can't hold my own when I am head to head with another rider on a ~5 second sprint.

My third crit down. Lesson of the day: Don't waste energy closing a gap that you can't maintain.
